Decorative Concrete

Concrete has always been an understated and neglected building material traditionally covered by things such as carpet and vinyl. However, decorative concrete has become an innovative way to decorate both the interior and the exterior of a home. Decorative concrete can be found on driveways, walkways, decks, countertops, patios, and basements -- just about any surface you would like to make slick, smooth, and colorful. Not only is decorative concrete economical, but it is also beautiful, resilient, tough and able to withstand the test of time.

Decorative concrete can be colored, scored, stained, stamped or textured to create the desired effect. After the preferred technique is employed, the decorative concrete should be sealed and waterproofed to preserve the longevity of the decorated concrete. The advantage of having decorative concrete is that, in most instances, simply sweeping or using a mop and floor wax will keep the decorative concrete looking brand new.

Before installing decorative concrete, consumers should make sure this is the right choice for them. For those accustomed to carpet or vinyl floor coverings inside the home, decorative concrete may be too cold when one walks around barefoot. Some other concerns may include sounds echoing, fragile objects having a higher chance of breaking into pieces when dropped; the tendency to slip on the slick surface is also higher. It would be a good idea to take all of these considerations into account before deciding on the use of decorative concrete in your home.
