Halo Recessed Lighting

Halo is part of the Cooper Lighting family, a 40-year old company featuring recessed and track lighting products as well as accessories and surface products for residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional applications. Recessed lighting is considered one of the most popular types of lighting for residential and commercial structures, as it gives ceilings an appearance of being flushed with light. Although some recessed lighting fixtures can be expensive, the bulbs and usage costs are generally inexpensive.

Types and Uses

Halo recessed lighting is offered in a variety of shapes, sizes and styles, and can be used to accent a space, for ambient lighting, and task lighting. Compatible light sources include fluorescent, compact-fluorescent, halogen, HID, incandescent, line and low-voltage and metal halide or MH. The surface of the recessed light may be 4 to 7, 9, or 11 inches wide; sizes vary from round to square.

Products include features like thermally protected housing, damp location design, insulated ceiling fixture, and adjustable socket brackets. Styles include, but are not limited to general, accent, task and wall washing. General or ambient recessed lighting provides uniform lighting throughout a room, while task lighting illuminates a specific area in a room. Accent lighting highlights specific or individual features in a lighting scheme, interior design features, or objects such as art and plants. Accent lighting is also used in landscape design. White washing trims light towards a wall, provides down lighting and highlights texture in a room.

Down lighting is more commonly used, as fixtures cast the light downward, while uplifting is used less for general purposes, but more often when creating dramatic effect. Uplighting is often used in outdoor design schemes and can be seen throughout the walkways and entranceways to clubs, restaurants, and theaters; they can also be used to light stages.

Safety

Fixtures that may be covered or smothered with insulation carry an IC (Insulated Ceiling) rating. Fixtures with IC ratings should be used on the top floor of a home because it is generally the level blanketed with insulation. If other areas in the home have insulation, IC kits can be used as well. Non-IC rated recessed lighting may be used in most commercial applications, basements, away from insulation and the first floor. Halo recessed lighting products meet the State of California Title 24 energy code as well as the New York and Washington State energy codes.
