Leak Detection

Leak detection is essential to prevent substantial damage due to leaks in water, gas, and sewer plumbing and pipes. These leaks can result in expensive repair bills, reduction of property value, loss of water service or water quality, and persistent mold problems. Leak detection is also crucial in industrial settings where a leak may expose people to hazardous chemicals. Even a very small seepage can cause dangerous effects to human tissue, a potentially disastrous situation.

Regular leak detection can prevent wasteful loss and high costs of bills for water or gas that was never used. Studies show that up to 14% of documented indoor water usage is actually lost in leaks. However, finding these leaks does not have to involve destruction of walls, floors, and ceilings.

Skillful leak detection employs the use of non-invasive techniques and technologically advanced devices that detect leaks without having to do physical damage to surrounding structures, such as walls and floors, or other plumbing. Techniques may include careful monitoring of meter readings vs. consumption, constant monitoring of pressure, lining of pipes, evaluation of pipe joints, and replacement of the pipes.

Leak detection specialists also have at their disposal specialized tools made specifically for the purpose of leak detection, such as sensors that detect the slightest presence of fluid leakage. Even the most superficial leak can have disastrous consequences if not caught and repaired in time.
