Plastic Molding

Plastic molding is the primary process for creating plastic parts. Plastic molding is a replication process where molten plastic is injected under pressure into a mold. When the plastic cools and is removed, it retains the shape of the mold. The mold itself is custom-made to whatever product it is forming.

Since individual molds must be made for each product, plastic molding is expensive. Plastic molding machines are heavy duty and expensive. A plastic molding machine can weigh anywhere between 45 to 850 tons; however, most plastic molding companies will have several machines due to the demand for various products and the need for different molds.

Plastic molding is an expensive and complicated procedure; however, many plastic products are created this way. From video game controllers to lawn chairs, the process to create such products was plastic molding. Products made from plastic molding are most frequently seen in automotive, computer, telecommunications, medical and consumer industries.
